Some homeowners like to include a wall as part of their Solarlux Wintergarden glass extension design. This can be for aesthetic or practical reasons. For example, a solid wall or half a wall can be useful for placing kitchen cabinets or a log burner in your new extension. The bespoke nature of Solarlux Wintergarden glass extensions means any size or shape of solid wall can be incorporated.

Yes, you can have a log burner in a glass extension. To do this, you will need to incorporate a solid wall or panel in your design. The wood burner would then be attached to this, with the flue going through the wall or a panel within the roof specifically made for this purpose.

Some people like to include a log burner in their Akzent Plus glass extension. Although the glazed structure is highly insulated and thermally efficient, a wood burner can add an extra feeling of cosiness.

The U-values of the Akzent Plus depend on a variety of factors. U-values measure heat transfer through a material or structure, and apply to building components like windows, doors, walls, roofs and floors.

For a Wintergarden glass extension, a number of factors must be considered to calculate its U-value. It's more complicated to determine than that of, say, a single window or sliding door, because various components make up the structure as a whole.

One of the key things that informs these calculations is the known testing and certifications of individual elements within the glass extension. The bi-folding doors and sliding doors, for example, are separately rated for weather impermeability and given their own U-value.

Another factor that helps with the U-value calculations of a Solarlux Wintergarden is that it is a one-system design. While other products on the market comprise various elements made by different manufacturers, Solarlux glass extensions are entirely made up of the company's own components, all manufactured at a huge single factory in Germany. This means everything fits together seamlessly to improve air tightness and create outstanding thermal efficiency.

For all the reasons above, it's impossible to give a single U-value for the Akzent Plus. However, the image here shows an actual Akzent Plus project that we calculated the U-values for. As can be seen, the overall U-values of this Wintergarden glass structure came in at a low 0.92 W/m²K - almost reaching passive house standards!
